About Springfield, NJ
Springfield Township, settled in the early 1700s, is a township rich in history and tradition. The Briant family was among the first settlers, arriving from Hackensack in 1717. The town's early years saw the establishment of notable families like the Whiteheads, Van Winkles, Denmans, and Woodruffs. Springfield Township was once frequented by the Unami, a subgroup of the Lenape Tribe known as the “People Down the River.”
